Relient K - Rhapsody Original

Sounds like hard rocking punk and power pop along the lines of Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory, MxPx, Green Day, and Sum 41, with some quieter piano-driven parts similar to Ben Folds.

Wondering who's next to break big in Christian music after Stacie Orrico, MercyMe, and Switchfoot? All indicators point to Canton, Ohio's Relient K. Since coming onto the scene in 2000, the power punk band has amassed one of the most loyal followings in CCM, selling more than a million copies of their first three albums together. The success has led to opportunities in both Christian and mainstream markets—Gotee now shares a distribution deal with Capitol. Additionally, the band is strengthening and maturing their sound with every album, including their latest tight-lipped title mmHmm.

Hawk Nelson - Hawk Nelson Is My Friend

download-albumsHawk-Nelson-Is-My-Friend
Since 2004, music lovers have enjoyed a real camaraderie with rising pop-punk band Hawk Nelson, helping the quartet sell nearly half a million albums, land personal appearances on major television and motion picture projects, and gain high-profile song placement (Bring Em Out) with NBCs NFL Sunday Night Football campaign. Going into this record, we sat down and thought about how weve always had this mentality of not so much winning fans as making friends, says frontman Jason Dunn. We want to be clear that were all about being on the same level as the audience. Now the true bond of friendship between the group and others continues to strengthen, mature, and be more overtly celebrated than even before with the ntario-originated acts third Tooth & Nail release, Hawk Nelson Is My Friend.

For all of their adventures and successes thus far, the members of Hawk Nelson still see themselves as four guys just trying to make it, says Dunn. Well always be working toward that, trying to be THE band and write the best songs possible. Hawk Nelson Is My Friend most definitely lives up to that goal.

Ace Troubleshooter - The Madness Of The Crowds

download-albums-The-Madness-Of-The-Crowds
Ace Troubleshooter came to an abrupt end in February 2005 when lead singer John Warne left to play bass for Relient K. Toby David posted the announcement of the Ace's death on the band's message board, mentioning that even though he was not an original member of the band, he felt like he was. [1] It has been said that Ace was starting to fall apart as it was, and they were not going anywhere, which may have led to the band's split.

mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister, Christian Punk

Genius or lunacy -- take your pick. But either way, give credit to Aaron Weiss and gang for another unique taste of Christian indie rock sentiment. In more of his half-shouting, stream-of-consciousness style, Weiss throws any sense of traditional song form out the door. Lyrically speaking, Brother, Sister is more cryptic and nonsensical than almost anything else in Tooth & Nail Records' catalog. It proves an arduous task to identify any faith-based themes on the disc besides a desperate plea to reconcile one's place before God. Although there is less pounding rock than on its debut album, the group continues to explore sounds that make you want to shudder and tap along simultaneously. The one theme appears to be an obsession with mischievous critters -- spiders, porcupines, and wolves, to name a few. You'll either "get it" or you won't, but you definitely won't forget the eccentric sound of this oft-loved band.

Steven Curtis Chapman - This Moment, Contemporary Christian Music

His music a cross between '70s-style light rock and orchestrated pop, Steven Curtis Chapman has been one of the most prominent performers of contemporary Christian music since the '80s. Born and raised in Paducah, KY, Chapman learned to play several instruments while hanging out in his father's music store, excelling at guitar and piano. As a young man, he enrolled as a pre-med student at Anderson College in Indiana. He soon decided to pursue a music career and dropped out to go to Nashville, where he began working in a music show at Opryland USA. When not performing, he was busy writing songs, a skill he learned from his father. One of Chapman's tunes was recorded by the Imperials, a prominent gospel group, marking the beginning of his songwriting success; many of gospel and country's brightest stars, including Sandi Patti, Billy Dean, Glen Campbell, and Roger Whittaker, have gone on to record Chapman's songs.

Although several different labels and music publishers were interested in him by 1987, he decided to sign with the major Christian music company Sparrow. That year he cut his first album, First Hand. The first single released from the album, "Weak Days," made it to number two on the contemporary Christian chart. His second album, 1988's Real Life Conversations, earned him four more hits, including the number one song "His Eyes." Co-written with James Isaac Elliott, it earned the Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year award from the Gospel Music Association in 1989. That year, he also won a GMA award for Best Songwriter of the Year. Released later that year, his third album, More to This Life, contained four number one hits and in 1990 earned him an unprecedented ten nominations at the GMA Awards (he won five). His next album, For the Sake of the Call, which contained five number one singles and earned him another slew of GMA awards and his first Grammy in the Best Pop Gospel Album category, only strengthened his position as the king of Christian music.

In 1992, Chapman made a successful bid to attract a more mainstream audience with The Great Adventure, which also won a Grammy, and its accompanying title track video. When Sparrow Records was purchased by EMI/Liberty, they began marketing the album in discount stores, and in 1993, it went gold. Also released in 1993 (both as a video and CD), The Live Adventure won more GMA awards and also earned Chapman a new award from American Songwriter magazine, Songwriter and Artist of the Year. Chapman released his seventh album, Heaven in the Real World, in 1994 and embarked on a major tour. In 1996, Chapman released Signs of Life, which was followed three years later by Speechless. Though Chapman's albums had always done well on the Billboard CCM charts, in 2001, after the release of Declaration, he really began to get even more attention on the Top 200. Both it and 2002's All About Love peaked in the Top 15, and his 2004 record All Things New made it to number 22. In September 2005, in time for the holiday season, Chapman released All I Really Want for Christmas, and the following year Musical Blessing came out.

Steven Curtis Chapman - All About Love [2002]

download-albums-StevenCurtisChapman-AllAboutLove
With two platinum and nine gold records Steven Curtis Chapman probably deserves to be cut some slack for personal projects. Instead of compromise though, the veteran performer refocuses in on the commitment of his 18- year marriage to his wife Mary Beth, and uses that as the nucleus for All About Love. It's an honest, passionately delivered disc that reflects a commitment to vows and his wife. "How Do I love Her" is a song laced with the beauty of a baby grand surrounded by simple bass notes and an acoustic guitar. The tune weaves a melody that's both sincere and fitting. Make it through "11-06-64" without a tear and you're much less emotional than most. Chapman's eloquence here is enriching, both lyrically and musically. The cut boasts the prominence of his wife's birthday, weaving a tapestry a la James Taylor. " I Will Be Here" is one of this release's most touching moments. The brilliance of Chapman's' lyrics are only matched by the beauty of the cut's sweeping strings. Regardless of the inspiration, it has to be difficult to write with one specific theme in mind. While still appealing, a few cuts seem a bit over-sweetened. Tunes like "Miracle of You" and "I'll Take Care of You" are examples of a mishmash of influences. At times, Frankie Vali, Pablo Cruise, and Harry Connick Jr. seem to be emulating from the tunes. Imagine finding 15 love songs on one collection without smut, sexuality, or blatant overtones. Steven Curtis Chapman delivers a lyrical batch of uplifting slants on commitment, passion, and worship that culminate in one beautiful message of love.

VA - Music Inspired By The Chronicles Of Narnia

VA - Music Inspired By The Chronicles Of Narnia

QUOTE(Michael Lyttle)
Let's be clear from the outset that this release is not the soundtrack to the highly anticipated film adaptation of C.S. Lewis' age-old literary classic series: The Chronicles of Narnia. Nevertheless, the first The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe serves as inspiration to a collection of original songs penned by high-profile Christian artists. While knowledge of the books is helpful to grasp the emotional direction of this release, fans don't need to be all too familiar as nearly every song is attractive in its own right. Jars of Clay opens in fine style with the airy \"Waiting for the World to Fall\" followed by Steven Curtis Chapman's catchy \"Remembering You\" and Bethany Dillon's delightful \"Hero.\" Other highlights include Delirious' \"Stronger,\" which will remind fans of the band's superb Glo release from years back, and Toby Mac's \"New World\" which resonates with his street-hot brand of rap-rock. David Crowder fans will be pleasantly surprised with the exotic \"Turkish Delight,\" a fun romp that takes Crowder's musical style the extra mile. Finishing the same way it begins, this Narnia release ends with the infectious \"You're the One\" from worship leader extraordinaire Chris Tomlin. Lewis' literary series has influenced generations of young believers and now a fine original work of art has encouraged more of the same.

This is my first Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir CD, and I have to say it is absolutely wonderful. Jars of Clay - Who We Are Instead

For 2002's Eleventh Hour, Jars of Clay seemed to transfer the inherent power of their music from soulful vocals and grassroots gospel to the din of ragged electric guitars and anxious drum machines. That wasn't a bad decision, necessarily, but the album did seem to be more of a mood piece than anything. For Who We Are Instead, the band settled into the comfortable Tennessee environs of its own Sputnik studio and set about tuning up those old acoustic guitars. The resulting 13 songs still nod to modernism with slick production and the occasional twinge of programming. But where the electronics of Eleventh tracks like "Disappear" or "Revolution" seemed to cast a shadow, the gritty, percolating bottom end of Who We Are Instead's"Trouble Is" adds resolve to the song's slide-guitar tale of darkness and light. "My heart ain't built to stay," vocalist Dan Haseltine sings in an appropriately world weary tone. "Jesus told me so." It's in this way that Jars of Clay unites their own beliefs with the larger church of American roots music. "Amazing Grace" (with its fabulous guest shot from vocalist Ashley Cleveland) is another signpost on that long U.S. route to redemption; it finds its spiritual brethren in Live's "Lightning Crashes" and U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." The band even reveals the reverent heart of America's Lonely People," transforming the song's "Don't give up!" message into a pep talk supported by mandolin and impressive '70s vocal harmonies. While the CCM-pop of single "Show Me Love" and lively "I'm in the Way" is pleasant enough, it doesn't resonate as effectively in the midst of Who We Are's more honest moments. These arrive again with "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet"

Influenced by the grace of the homeless, nameless street singer at the center of Gavin Bryars' epic piece -- which expertly mixes naked, almost whispered vocals with slowly surging instrumentation, and closer "My Heavenly," where a simple, yet determinedly effective, paean to God weaves quietly through the strains of a chamber pop piano. Jars of Clay's devotion will ensure the embrace of Who We Are Instead by alternative CCM fans. But the band's reverence for the Americana canon aligns them with a stable of secular artists -- Counting Crows, Train, and Ryan Adams, to name only a few -- who till the same fertile soil.

The Showdown - Temptation Come My Way

The Showdown - Temptation Come My Way
Have you noticed that an overabundance of hard rock bands of the early 21st century are comprised of sensitive, well, let's face it, rather wimpy gentleman? The loud and proud Tennessee quintet, Showdown, have certainly noticed, and their mission is to do something about it, as evidenced by their 2006 release, Temptation Come My Way.
Combining the guitar harmonies of Iron Maiden, the crunchy riffs and vocals of Metallica (before they pulled the mascara
NapsterSome Kind of Monster triple blunder), and the melodic sensibilities of Stone Temple Pilots, Showdown doesn't sound like your average Headbangers Ball band. Instead, the group manages to be rocking and memorable at the same time, especially on such tracks as the album opening "Fanatics and Whores," "Six Feet Under," and "Forget My Name." Additionally, singer David Bunton should also be commended by not abusing the done-to-death screaming and hollering vocal shtick -- which just about every single hard rockmetal singer circa 2006 is utilizing.

Steven Curtis Chapman - Declaration

download-albums-Steven-Curtis-Chapman-Declaration
As the United States of America marked the two-week anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, contemporary Christian music saw the release of Steven Curtis Chapman's 12th album simply entitled Declaration. The album's name is taken from the project's song "Declaration of Dependence," in which Chapman proclaims his utter reliance on God. It only seems fitting that a project with the intent of declaring everyone's need, as human beings, for dependence upon the Almighty would be offered in the wake of such tragic and horrific events. The Sparrow Records' project mirrors Chapman's previous three or four albums. It does not necessarily employ the precise styles of acoustic pop and CCM as its predecessors. However, the release reflects his past efforts in that Chapman appears to be re-inventing himself once again without losing the sound listeners have come to expect. With Dependence, Chapman continues to provide upbeat, and at times edgy, tracks that communicate clear messages of faith. Notable songs include the album's first radio single, "Live Out Loud," which references Regis Philbin, "Bring It On," and the poignant "Savior."

Voice of Punk to Jesus by Kutless - Sea of Faces

download-albums-kutless-sea-of-faces
Coming off the heels of a stellar debut release, Kutless releases its sophomore disc Sea of Faces. Produced by Aaron Sprinkle, Sea of Faces is the type of disc to make a band's career. The discs rockers, like "Not What You See" and "Treason," are studio spit-shined. Sprinkles production touches throughout give the opus the legs to stride to the next level. While the bandmembers seem completely at ease with the heavier cuts, they really shine on the mid-tempo and slow tunes. The title track utilizes piano and acoustic guitars to deliver a poignant cut with lyrics to match.

"Perspectives" again finds the band cutting back during the verse while the chorus pinnacles into a rock nugget. When the band utilizes both electric and acoustic guitars, the songs really seem to come to life. Check out the sincerity on "All the Words" or the introspection on "It's Like Me." Sea of Faces is a rock masterpiece. Kutless has completely delivered the goods while retaining the charm possessed on its debut disc. This opus is well-written, well-presented, and musically rich throughout.

Slayer - Christ Illusion

download-albums-slayer-christ-illusions
A Christian group, the Mumbai based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF), condemned the album's lyrical content. The organisation's general secretary Joseph Dias issued a statement in which he deemed the lyrics to "Skeleton Christ" to be an "insult to Christianity".[49] The memorandum was sent to Mumbai's police commissioner, and further expressed concern that the track "Jihad" would offend "the sensibilities of the Muslims...and secular Indians who have respect for all faiths."[49] EMI India met with the CSF, apologising for Christ Illusion's release and recalling the album with no plans of a reissue.[49] On October 11, 2006 it was announced all stocks had been destroyed.[54] Though Araya had expected "Jihad"'s treatment of the events of 9/11 to create an American backlash,[50] it failed to materialise, in part, he believes, due to peoples' view that the song is merely "just Slayer being Slayer".[10]

Third Day - Chronology, Vol. 1

Although I'm a big Third Day fan, I bought this mainly for the DVD stuff and was quite pleased with the overall CD/DVD package (the DVD stuff is great for any fan). In fact, I was pretty shocked at how good this CD was. Before I purchased it, I wasn't excited to hear "remakes" of their old stuff; I have all of their albums on my iPod, so why would I need to hear it again? But I tell you what, I absolutely love the new mixes / remakes. For example, I liked how Thief was from their first album, but it wasn't a favorite of mine...something was missing. The new version of Thief on this CD is exactly what was missing. The new arrangement is what this song needed from day 1. I've listed to that song 5-10 times already while working around the house. And, the other songs are just as good. The mix of remakes, new takes, live ones, and rare ones are worth the investment.

If you're the least bit interested, pick it up...you won't be disappointed.Third Day - Chronology, Vol. 1

Newsboys - Not Ashamed(1992)

This album took a mediocre, little known Christian band from Australia into THE name in Christian alternative and pop music. The influence of Steve Taylor is evident throughout the album with his hilariously satirical lyrics everywhere. But his lyrics would be nothing without the incredible talent and energy of the Newsboys (who, incidentally, seem to wear out a lead guitar player and a keyboardist about every year or so through their absolutely energy-packed albums and concerts!).

The Newsboys start off on the right track with "I Cannot Get You Out of my System." This song gets you into the Newsboys groove - lots of sequencing and looping and fancy sound work, and some witty lyrics.

They quickly follow this with the smash hit title track "Not Ashamed." This one song was the band's making ... more energy and meaning are packed into this song than I have heard from most bands' entire albums. The Newsboys' entire ministry is based on Romans 1:16: "I am not ashamed of the Gospel." The song says "What are we sneaking around for? Who are we trying to please? Shrugging off sin, apologizing like we're spreading some kind of disease" then comes back with the Newsboys' answer: "I'm not ashamed to let you know, I want this light in me to show, I'm not ashamed to speak the name of Jesus Christ!" Now that's what I call wearing your faith on your sleeve, and being very happy to do so. That's the kind of faith God intends for us to have, and it's a shame we let our pride and selfish desires get in the way so often. What a different place the world would be if more people would stand up and say "I'm not ashamed of Jesus - I'm proud to take a stand for His Name!"

Newsboys - Adoration: The Worship Album [2003]

download-news-boy-worship-albums
Listening to the funky opener, "He Reigns," on the Newsboys' first praise & worship offering is like opening one gift on Christmas Eve, or the prelude to a kiss. What follows is pure splendor and joy that assaults the senses with a bevy of strong emotions. On Adoration, the Newsboys have delivered a rousing opus that delights with each passing moment. Cuts like "Great Is Your Faithfulness" and "Adoration" come across as sincerely genuine spins with real-world lyrics and a passion that landscapes rich musical textures. When Peter Furler comes off as sincere, his vocals fly to the next level and take the band with him. On "Great Is the Faithfulness," Furler's vocal bursts at midsong are eerily Bono-like. On "Adoration," which was penned by Steve Taylor, the tune's dreamlike keyboards and sonic dissonance give way to a most memorable vocal hook. Sprinkled throughout Adoration are some truly tasty moments. Background vocals, Taylor's shiny production, and the musical interludes are a few reasons to be impressed. What's amazing is that this praise & worship disc doesn't boast "filler" material. It doesn't rely on the "old" classics to boost its legitimacy. Practically every tune is penned by Furler, with collaborators like Taylor, Martin Smith, and Toby McKeehan aiding in the disc's authority. This is a truly inspiring performance that asserts the bandmembers as apt students in the art of praise & worship.
